I have thought about it a lot, I think it's just the sound of a genius, or a very inspired person if you prefer, being recorded adequately. He picks closer to the neck joint rather than closer to the bridge, that's part of it. If you play a guitar like that it will sound like that. I think a lot of it is the guitar technique. He had some sort of budget chinese condenser large diaphragm microphone I believe. It was actually the song titled Either/Or on New Moon (disc 2) and not the album, but the album is definitely an iconic Portland masterpiece. ![]()
